As Sen. John McCain assumes the GOP front-runner mantle, his long-standing, but little-noticed association with left-wing donors such as George Soros and Teresa Heinz Kerry is receiving new attention among his Republican critics.

In 2001, McCain founded the Alexandria, Va.-based Reform Institute as a vehicle to receive funding from George Soros' Open Society Institute and Teresa Heinz Kerry's Tides Foundation and several other prominent non-profit organizations.

McCain used the institute to promote his political agenda and provide compensation to key campaign operatives between elections.

In 2006, the Arizona senator was forced to sever his formal ties with the Reform Institute after a controversial $200,000 contribution from Cablevision came to light. McCain solicited the donation for the Reform Institute using his membership on the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation. In a letter to the Federal Communications Commission, he supported Cablevision's push to introduce the more profitable al la carte pricing, rather than packages of TV programming.

Israel is one of the tiniest nations on the face of the earth... only about 8,000 sq. miles, 2� times the size of Rhode Island and only slightly larger than the Canary Islands!. It is only 260 miles at its longest, has a 112-mile coastline, 60 miles at its widest, and between 3 and 9 miles at its narrowest! A very high-powered rifle could launch a projectile right across the country! Need More Proof? The photo below shows a west-east view of Northern Israel's Hula Valley (a---b). I took the photo from atop the Menara Cliffs, just above Kiryat Shmona (a). Behind me (not shown) is Lebanon. Along the entire top of the photo (light blue area) is Syria with the Golan Heights rising up from the Hula Valley. For those who wish to have Israel relinquish Judea and Samaria ("West Bank") so that the Arabs can form a SECOND Arab "Palestinian" Nation (the first being Jordan), take a close look at the map (below right). Notice the 2,200 foot high Judean Mountains running North to South 60 miles along the entire length of the West Bank. A Palestinian sniper (of which there are many!) or a rocket launcher would have a bird's eye view of Israel's most densely-populated areas. Israel's Ben Gurion International Airport would also be just a few short miles from the edge of a West Bank Palestinian nation! Israel's capital city of Jerusalem would be nearly encased within Palestinian territory and jeopardizing its ability to survive an attack. In effect, Israel would be reduced to a defenseless nation 9 to 25 miles wide at areas separating Israel Proper from that enemies on her eastern flank! Also, if the Gaza Strip and the West Bank were joined to form a continuous "Palestinian" land mass, Israel would be cut in half! (below left)

Look again at the above-left map. If Arafat and his Jew-murdering, Nazi terrorist thugs ever take possession of Judea-Samaria ("West Bank") and Gaza and call it their State, how will these two SEPARATE land areas (West Bank + Gaza) be connected? Will there be some underground tunnel? Some overhead bridge? Or will the Arabs simply demand a land corridor connecting these areas... in the process, cut Israel in half! This is a prescription for Israel's suicide and the Arabs know it! No nation is required to arrange the terms of her own suicide. Any peace-making must be at the negotiating table and not upon an autopsy table! If Israel were to turn over land of this magnitude, they would be signing their own death certificates. Sen. Jim Webb thinks legal action against the Bush administration may be needed if the president pursues a long-term military presence in Iraq without Congress' approval.

"I'm not convinced we don't need to have a lawsuit ready," Webb told the Huffington Post. "This is a classic separation of powers issue. I started to talk to people about this today."

In recent days the administration has seemingly backed away from attempting to secure extended military-to-military relationship with the Iraqi government to replace a current U.N. Mandate. Webb and others -- most notably Rep. Rosa DeLauro and Sen. Hillary Clinton -- have pushed legislation that would restrict federal money for any such agreement unless it came in the form of a congressional treaty. And while a victory on that front seems within grasp, the possibility still exists, Webb warned, for the administration to ultimately circumvent congressional input.

"They are characterizing this as within the authority of the Executive Branch. They will wait to August when everyone is at the conventions, and leave it on our doorstep," said the Virginia Democrat. "If the Senate hasn't acted by then, they are going to announce an agreement between the Executive Branch and Iraq."

The issue of a long-term military presence in Iraq reemerged on the political landscape today after Defense Secretary Robert Gates said he may suspend the reduction of U.S. troops from the country depending on security considerations.

"A brief period of consolidation and evaluation probably does make sense," Gates told reporters during a short stop at this U.S. base in southern Baghdad.

Earlier proclamations from Gates suggested that the U.S. would not pursue a policy of extended military presence and that conditions in Iraq would improve enough during the second half of 2008 to permit troop withdrawals.

Asked to respond to Gates' remarks, Webb cautioned that, before working off of one person's assessment, the Senate would best be served to get the input of generals on the ground. He also agreed that the statement fit into the greater context of the Bush administration and its congressional allies pushing to make America's presence in the region permanent.

"I think they are doing everything they can," said Webb. "And I don't think there is any secret to the fact that Sen. Mitch McConnell and John McCain and most of the people in the Republican Party are comfortable with the fact that we will be in Iraq for the next 50 years."

The issue of permanency has been a focal point of the Democratic presidential campaign. On the campaign trail, Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-NY, asked her challenger, Sen. Barack Obama, D-IL, to co-sponsor her bill that would prevent the president from entering into such a pact without approval from Congress. On Monday, the two candidates weighed in on the topic with each offering critical statements of Gates' proclamation.

"I strongly disagree with the Administration's plans to 'pause' the long overdue removal of our combat brigades from Iraq," said Obama. "We cannot wage war without end in Iraq while ignoring mounting costs to our troops and their families, our security and our economy... Instead of false promises and a faulty strategy, the American people need a rapid and responsible removal of our combat brigades that relieves the burden on our military."

Added Clinton: "This means that we will have as many troops in Iraq in the summer of 2008 as we had at the beginning of 2007. I continue to call on the President to end the war he started, to take responsibly for bringing our young men and women home... The whole idea behind this so-called surge was to give the Iraqi government the space and time to make the tough decisions that only they can make for themselves and the future of their country."

On May 2, 2004, Tali Chatuel, a beautiful 34-year-old Jewish pioneer who lived in the Gaza District, was brutally murdered by Arab Muslim Nazi terrorists along with her four little daughters: Hila, 11; Hadar, 9; Roni, 7; and Merav, 2. Tali was in her eighth month of pregnancy when she was murdered.

When Tali's mother told Sharon that her daughter's Muslim murderers would be given the Chatuel home, Sharon said that that would not happen. However, he failed to explain how he could prevent it from happening once the entire Gaza District is in PLO terrorist hands.

Another of Tali's relatives told Sharon that the Jewish communities of Gush Katif in the Gaza District were fulfilling G-d's commandments by settling in His land, as the Torah requires Jews to do.

Finally, in a third incident, two more Jewish soldiers were murdered trying to bring water to an old Arab woman who deliberately played upon their Jewish compassion to lead them into a murderous ambush.

None of these young Israelis would have been murdered if the Israeli Air Force had bombed Arab terrorist positions from the air instead of sending Jewish soldiers on the ground into these Muslim terrorist nests.

But Sharon and the other opportunistic politicians in the Likud-Shinui-National Union-National Religious Party government coalition do not order Israeli jets to bomb from the air because Arab Muslim Nazi "civilians" might be killed or injured.

Teamsters are launching a nationwide campaign to fire U.S. Secretary of Transportation Mary Peters for what they say is her "unlawful decision" to keep the American border open to Mexican trucks.

As WND reported, the Bush administration has decided to ignore a provision passed by Congress and signed into law by President Bush as part of the 2008 omnibus spending bill that was intended to remove funding from the 2008 DOT appropriations bill for the Mexican truck demonstration project.

"It's a disgrace that Mary Peters is still in office," said Teamsters General President James Hoffa in a news release today. "She has broken the law and defied the will of the American people by exposing them to dangerous trucks from Mexico."

The Teamsters have created FireMaryPeters.com, a website complete with downloadable "Fire Mary Peters" windshield signs, recommended actions and an e-mail component urging citizens to ask their elected representatives to find Mary Peters in contempt of Congress.

The Teamsters have mailed a "Fire Mary Peters" bumper sticker to thousands of union members and supporters.

"Transportation Secretary Mary Peters is the latest member of the Bush administration to break the law," the Teamster website proclaims. "She continues to give dangerous Mexican trucks access to our highways despite overwhelmingly bipartisan measures passed by Congress and signed by President Bush."

The Teamsters have also placed posters and floor graphics in the Navy Yard Metro stop in Washington, D.C., near the DOT building.

Planned as well is a leafleting campaign at the Metro stop, where DOT employees will be handed cards asking them to call a "Fire Mary Peters" hotline to report other laws Peters has broken.

A series of videos on the website shows a Teamster rally at the San Diego border and testimony Hoffa has given Congress opposing NAFTA.

The "Fire Mary Peters" campaign has a special focus in Peters' home state of Arizona, where letters and bumper stickers have been mailed to thousands of Teamsters, urging them to take action.

Although not yet announced, widespread rumors persist that Peters is planning to run for governor of Arizona in 2010.

In a separate legal action, the Teamsters Union will argue in the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco on Feb. 12 that Peters broke federal laws aimed at ensuring American voters are not endangered by allowing Mexican trucks on U.S. roads.

WND telephoned the Department of Transportation asking for comment on this story, but received no return call.

ONCE JOHN WINS, HE'LL MAKE A LEFT

February 6, 2008 -- RUNNING as a conserva tive, John McCain rolled up huge victories last night in New York, New Jersey and beyond.

But if history is any guide, the McCain we've seen of late on the campaign trail is the most conservative McCain we'll ever see.

He has taken a commanding lead in the GOP primary by packaging himself as the "true conservative" committed to limited government, to slashed federal spending and to an avowedly conservative Supreme Court.

He claims the mantle of Ronald Reagan. He even claims the mantle of Barry Goldwater, conservatism's crack version of Reagan. But as McCain clinches the GOP nomination, he will begin his usual leftward lurch.

He will return to his lifelong positions as soft on illegal immigration, skeptical of tax cuts and favoring strong federal control over things like campaign financing.

McCain's appeal to independents and even the left is what makes him such a powerhouse in the general election.

It is also precisely what has so many in the Republican base so wildly fearful of handing him the keys to the kingdom.

If the Republican Party expands "because we have a candidate who's going out trying to attract liberals by being like them, then the party's going to be around but you won't recognize it," thundered radio king Rush Limbaugh.

The Republican Party will "be over as it exists now," he warns.

To understand just how McCain has managed to limp to the front of the GOP field, look no further than the outcome of yesterday's West Virginia Republican Convention.

At the outset, victory was in the air for Mitt Romney, the flip-flopping former Massachusetts governor.

He is universally loathed by all the other GOP candidates, who banded together to give all their votes to Mike Huckabee - simply to deny Romney a win.

The depressing GOP field that has paved a path to victory for McCain also gave surprising wins last night to Huckabee in Georgia, Alabama and Tennessee, as well as in his home state of Arkansas.

Still, McCain has so radicalized key conservatives that some have vowed to turn themselves into suicide voters next November by pulling the lever for Hillary Rodham Clinton over him.

This last-minute blitz against McCain by Limbaugh and others, however, comes far too late.

But if those conservatives sit out the general election, they will help Democrats make history by electing either the first black president or the first female president next November.

כ וְתַם לָרִיק, כֹּחֲכֶם; וְלֹא-תִתֵּן אַרְצְכֶם, אֶת-יְבוּלָהּ, וְעֵץ הָאָרֶץ, לֹא יִתֵּן פִּרְיוֹ.	20 And your strength shall be spent in vain; for your land shall not yield her produce, neither shall the trees of the land yield their fruit.
כא וְאִם-תֵּלְכוּ עִמִּי קֶרִי, וְלֹא תֹאבוּ לִשְׁמֹעַ לִי--וְיָסַפְתִּי עֲלֵיכֶם מַכָּה, שֶׁבַע כְּחַטֹּאתֵיכֶם.	21 And if ye walk contrary unto Me, and will not hearken unto Me; I will bring seven times more plagues upon you according to your sins.
כב וְהִשְׁלַחְתִּי בָכֶם אֶת-חַיַּת הַשָּׂדֶה, וְשִׁכְּלָה אֶתְכֶם, וְהִכְרִיתָה אֶת-בְּהֶמְתְּכֶם, וְהִמְעִיטָה אֶתְכֶם; וְנָשַׁמּוּ, דַּרְכֵיכֶם.	22 And I will send the beast of the field among you, which shall rob you of your children, and destroy your cattle, and make you few in number; and your ways shall become desolate.

ל וְהִשְׁמַדְתִּי אֶת-בָּמֹתֵיכֶם, וְהִכְרַתִּי אֶת-חַמָּנֵיכֶם, וְנָתַתִּי אֶת-פִּגְרֵיכֶם, עַל-פִּגְרֵי גִּלּוּלֵיכֶם; וְגָעֲלָה נַפְשִׁי, אֶתְכֶם.	30 And I will destroy your high places, and cut down your sun-pillars, and cast your carcasses upon the carcasses of your idols; and My soul shall abhor you.

לו וְהַנִּשְׁאָרִים בָּכֶם--וְהֵבֵאתִי מֹרֶךְ בִּלְבָבָם, בְּאַרְצֹת אֹיְבֵיהֶם; וְרָדַף אֹתָם, קוֹל עָלֶה נִדָּף, וְנָסוּ מְנֻסַת-חֶרֶב וְנָפְלוּ, וְאֵין רֹדֵף.	36 And as for them that are left of you, I will send a faintness into their heart in the lands of their enemies; and the sound of a driven leaf shall chase them; and they shall flee, as one fleeth from the sword; and they shall fall when none pursueth.
לז וְכָשְׁלוּ אִישׁ-בְּאָחִיו כְּמִפְּנֵי-חֶרֶב, וְרֹדֵף אָיִן; וְלֹא-תִהְיֶה לָכֶם תְּקוּמָה, לִפְנֵי אֹיְבֵיכֶם.	37 And they shall stumble one upon another, as it were before the sword, when none pursueth; and ye shall have no power to stand before your enemies.
לח וַאֲבַדְתֶּם, בַּגּוֹיִם; וְאָכְלָה אֶתְכֶם, אֶרֶץ אֹיְבֵיכֶם.	38 And ye shall perish among the nations, and the land of your enemies shall eat you up.

מ וְהִתְוַדּוּ אֶת-עֲו‍ֹנָם וְאֶת-עֲו‍ֹן אֲבֹתָם, בְּמַעֲלָם אֲשֶׁר מָעֲלוּ-בִי, וְאַף, אֲשֶׁר-הָלְכוּ עִמִּי בְּקֶרִי.	40 And they shall confess their iniquity, and the iniquity of their fathers, in their treachery which they committed against Me, and also that they have walked contrary unto Me.

The Holy Roman Empire Is Back

What happened last year in Italian politics is going to shock this world—if not now, then very soon. The pope humbled and even humiliated Prime Minister Romano Prodi. It was the kind of humiliation that has been common throughout the Vatican’s history. The pope’s action was only the tip of a politico-religious iceberg, and the American Titanic is sailing right toward it. Nothing in politics and religion is more important for you to understand.

From a.d. 554 to the present, there have been six Holy Roman Empires. They have been the bloodiest church-state empires ever on Earth! These Holy Roman Empires have been comprised mainly of Germany and the Vatican (which is why the empires are called “holy”).

Now the seventh Holy Roman Empire is rising fast. It is destined to be the bloodiest one of all!

A Clash With the Vatican

In May 2007, the Trumpet reported, “On February 19, a number of senior Italian government officials met at the Vatican for a closed-door session with some of the pope’s senior advisers. The topic under discussion was a burning issue on which Pope Benedict xvi had publicly declared his stance at extreme odds with Italy’s Prime Minister Romano Prodi: the matter of state recognition of unwed and homosexual couples.

“In numerous public declarations, both the pope and senior Vatican sources had declared vehement opposition to the Prodi government’s attempt to ram legislation through the Italian parliament that would allow for the official recognition by the government of such civil unions. If passed, this legislation would allow for those involved in such unions to receive certain government benefits currently available only to those engaged in the traditional institution of marriage between man and woman as endorsed by the church.

“Upon emerging from the in-camera session at the Vatican, Prime Minister Prodi was closed-mouthed. His sole words to the press were that it went ‘well.’

“Two days later, Prodi resigned his post.”

What would have caused the prime minister of Italy to resign? To the public it looked like it was over Italy’s role in the nato-led force in Afghanistan. But that was only the superficial view.

Here is what we learned by some in-depth research: “Our news bureau combed the news wires during the day, and all remained silent on Prodi’s future … until Friday evening, European time.

“That February 23, 10:30 p.m. cet, Catholic World News (cwn) released a story that seemed to tell it all. It was tucked away in the midst of the normal sheaf of news that cwn releases regularly in doing its usually admirable job of keeping its subscribers aware of the latest happenings at the Vatican. It ran under the headline, ‘New Italian government would not require allies to support civil-union bill.’

“‘Romano Prodi—struggling to forge a new ruling coalition in the Italian parliament after a key foreign-policy loss prompted his resignation as prime minister—has drafted an agreement that will not require his coalition allies to support civil unions,’ the report said. ‘The 12-point agreement seemed likely to draw enough support to return Prodi to the parliamentary leadership post. Foreign Minister Massimo D’Alema, a Prodi ally, told reporters that the coalition “can continue on this basis.”‘

“Now that is intriguing!

“The foreign minister made no reference to the Afghanistan issue, which is what was originally touted as the reason for Prodi’s resignation! The main issue highlighted in this statement, alluding to the prospect of the Prodi coalition being able to come together to re-form a government, was the removal of the requirement to push the civil-union bill through parliament in opposition to the pope’s powerful stand against it!” (ibid., emphasis mine throughout).

The Trumpet article continued, “On February 26, the most reliable news services were reporting the prospect of Prodi retaining the prime ministership, based on the acceptance by his coalition partners of the 12-point program, the highlight of which was not the Afghanistan issue, but Prodi’s changed stance on civil unions. ‘To lure support from moderates, Prodi watered down a 208-page program crafted during his April election campaign. The revised version is a 12-point list that drops legislation that authorizes same-sex unions, a measure opposed by some Catholics in the coalition’ (Bloomberg, February 26).

“Sure enough, following agreement to the 12-point program by Prodi’s coalition, Prodi won a confidence motion in both houses of parliament, ending the current crisis.

“So who rules now in Italy?

“It would seem that this victory for the papacy has significantly strengthened not only the Roman Catholic vote in the Italian parliament, but especially Pope Benedict’s own political authority and hence that of the Vatican State. It is a notable victory for the pope in his aggressive endeavors to claim the moral high ground for the Vatican in its quest to turn the whole of Europe away from the influence of secularism, back to that which he calls ‘Europe’s traditional roots’: its Roman Catholic roots!”

Europe’s traditional roots, of course, refers to the Holy Roman Empire.

Does the pope believe in democracy? No, he does not. The Vatican never has. Look at how he is involved in politics—exerting so much pressure over the leader of Italy.

But it goes much deeper.

At the celebrations for the 50th anniversary of the Treaty of Rome held in Berlin last year, a document on European unity was signed called the Berlin Declaration. The pope was invited to attend. He knew that there was to be no mention of God in the declaration—so he scorned the meeting!

Later, the pope was invited to speak to the European Parliament and help solve the problem—created by his not attending in the first place.

You can begin to see the power the Vatican has over the European Parliament—the nucleus of the coming Holy Roman Empire, the world’s next great superpower! People don’t have a clue as to where Europe is headed and the impact it will have on this world.

Reuters reported on March 24, 2007, “In a speech to European bishops on Saturday, Pope Benedict accused the EU of apostasy for refusing to mention Christianity in the Berlin Declaration.” By “Christianity,” he really means Catholicism. “Asking how leaders could hope to get closer to their citizens if they denied such an essential part of European identity, the head of the Roman Catholic Church said: ‘Does not this unique form of apostasy of itself, even before God, lead it (Europe) to doubt its very identity?’”

This religious leader, with 1 billion followers, is condemning many of the European leaders as apostate. That means they have fallen away from God! The strongest kind of condemnation. This is disturbing power from the religious side of the Holy Roman Empire.

The pope says this apostasy is causing Europe “to doubt its very identity.” What identity is that? The Holy Roman Empire. If you fail to embrace this bloody and evil past of forced conversions, he labels you apostate. Extremely alarming words.

Charlemagne began his rule over the Holy Roman Empire in a.d. 800. He is Europe’s greatest hero, it seems. And yet, it is common knowledge that he waded through a sea of blood to convert people to Catholicism. This is the identity the pope is promoting! So beware!

The pope is whipping Europe into the Catholic Holy Roman Empire. And the worst is yet to come. The world is going to be shocked beyond description very soon.

This news overshadows what is happening in the Middle East. We just don’t know it yet. The people of America are too absorbed in their pleasures and lusts to even notice.

Germany’s Economic and Military Power

Here is another alarming example of the growing power of this rising European empire. The Wall Street Journal wrote on Oct. 26, 2007, “Microsoft waved the white flag this week by dropping all appeals of the European Union’s 2004 ruling against the software giant. Such defeats are a familiar sight, and not only in antitrust. Europe writes the rules for global business today across the board—unapologetically to the benefit of its own industry. American companies are learning they have little choice but to obey.

“For the past half century, Europe was supposed to be building a free market. But old habits die hard, and many Continental politicians think more and better regulation is the route to prosperity. Their control over access to a consumer market of 500 million lets them try to force the rest of the world, in particular that economic giant across the Atlantic, to play by its cumbersome rules. This is Europe’s way of staying competitive.

“The result is a quiet but concerted war on American commerce. Antitrust policy in Brussels, particularly high-tech firms, is a battlefield. Mario Monti, the former EU competition czar who issued the ruling against Microsoft’s ‘bundling’ of software on its operating system, told Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera last month that putting that company and other American giants in their place was ‘the true strength of a united Europe.’ His successor, Neelie Kroes, celebrated an EU appeals court decision last month upholding his decision by musing about how low she’d like Microsoft’s market share to fall under the weight of regulatory pressure. Next in her sights are Intel, Qualcomm, Apple and Google, among others. … In effect, Brussels wants to force its … standards on the U.S. by saying—do things our way, or your goods won’t be sold here.”

A vicious trade war is coming. America is going to be the tragic victim. The Wall Street Journal sees the “concerted war on American commerce.” However, American politicians are too divided to fight back. They just surrender. That is, if they even see the problem.

Germany has been the European power that has most resisted the U.S. policy against Iran, especially the trade sanctions. That country is the real power behind this commerce war. A little recent history should illustrate this point. Germany caused the early-1990s Yugoslavian civil war and benefited most by its outcome.

A New York Times article at the time, titled “UN Yields to Plans by Germany to Recognize Yugoslav Republics,” stated this: “The Security Council backed away from a confrontation with Germany over Yugoslavia today after Germany’s European allies on the Council decided that they did not want a major clash with Bonn” (Dec. 16, 1991).

Why did the United Nations decide not to fight against Germany’s decision? Because Germany’s European allies “did not want a major clash with Bonn.” That means Germany won this battle against the whole world!

The historical plan of the European Union was to control a dangerous Germany. But it is clear that Germany is controlling the EU! This is the political side of the Holy Roman Empire.

The New York Times article continued: “The incident underscored Germany’s growing political power within the 12-nation European Community, diplomats said. Some added that it marked the single most visible demonstration of that power since reunification of the two Germanys” in 1990.

The article continued, “Moreover, in its unusual assertiveness in moving ahead with a plan to extend diplomatic recognition to the breakaway Yugoslav republics of Croatia and Slovenia, Germany has stirred troubling historical associations …. Nazi Germany dominated the two Yugoslav regions during World War ii, absorbing Slovenia into the Third Reich and creating a puppet regime in Croatia” (ibid.). “Germany has stirred troubling historical associations.” But just how troubled are we today? Even the New York Times doesn’t seem troubled anymore. I hear almost no discussion of that troubling history—or, more importantly, what it means for the future! That is why it is so troubling. (Read “Misreporting Kosovo” on page 14 of this issue.)

Are we afraid to face this frightening truth? America should be troubled enough to even risk a military clash with Germany. But such U.S. superpower actions are past history. After all, Germany could easily be stopped now if we had the will to use our power. But we are dangerously weak. So Germany’s power (with the EU) will grow until we can’t stop it.

A Warning Unheeded

In 1996, a shocking World War ii intelligence document was made public. The document, detailing an August 1944 meeting between top German industrialists, reveals a secret postwar plan to restore the Nazis to power. Several of Germany’s elite industries were represented, including Messerschmitt and Volkswagenwerks. These companies, the document asserts, were to “prepare themselves to finance the Nazi Party which would be forced to go underground.” When the U.S. declassified this document, it received only sparse news coverage. Yet even more disturbing than the deep stupor of the media is the fact that the U.S. government did not make it public until 1996—over 50 years later! (Request our free booklet The Rising Beast.)

The Nazis said repeatedly after World War ii that America would be their number-one target next time. Why? Because our abundant resources led to their defeat in World Wars i and ii. Both of those wars were started by Germany.

Do you know who helped Nazis escape after World War ii more than any other institution? The Vatican! Mark Aarons and John Loftus, in their book Unholy Trinity, thoroughly documented the fact that the Vatican sponsored and engineered the infamous “Ratlines”—used to help many Nazi leaders escape from the Allies at the end of World War ii. Aarons and Loftus based their 1991 book on intelligence documents that had just been released. Those documents had been classified for nearly 50 years. (That massive and diabolical cover-up is another tragic story in itself.)

When World War ii concluded, it ended the sixth head of the Holy Roman Empire. But the empire did not die—it went underground. This world was warned about what was happening, but only a few people heeded. Herbert W. Armstrong warned of Germany’s postwar rise. Here is an excerpt from a radio broadcast given May 9, 1945: “We don’t understand German thoroughness. From the very start of World War ii, they have considered the possibility of losing this second round, as they did the first—and they have carefully, methodically planned, in such eventuality, the third round—World War iii! Hitler has lost. This round of war, in Europe, is over. And the Nazis have now gone underground. In France and Norway they learned how effectively an organized underground can hamper occupation and control of a country. Paris was liberated by the French underground—and Allied armies. Now a Nazi underground is methodically planned. They plan to come back and to win on the third try.”

How could Herbert W. Armstrong have known that Germany would rise to power again? It is a terrifying story, but with the most exhilarating ending you could imagine. German Navy—Next Stop Gaza?

Was German naval deployment off the coast of Lebanon a harbinger for its further deployment in the Middle East? By Ron Fraser

That Germany is back on the world scene as a rapidly developing military power is beyond question. Since the Berlin Wall fell on Nov. 9, 1989, reunifying the nation, forces have been at work building a cadre of senior German military personnel well schooled in military strategy and effective diplomacy.

The expansion of Germany’s postwar military role began with its senior service, the German Navy, the Bundesmarine.

Before the 1990 outbreak of the Balkan Wars, the Bundesmarine’s main areas of operation were the Baltic, the Norwegian and the North seas, which it patrolled in the service of the nato alliance. The specific Cold War objective of the Bundesmarine’s deployment under nato was to prevent the Soviet Baltic fleet’s access to that region.

After Germany reunited and the ussr collapsed, the Bundesmarine’s role shifted from one of defending its nation’s home waters to an outward, southern and eastern perspective, deploying to the Mediterranean for nato during the Persian Gulf crisis in 1990, to the Persian Gulf after the start of the Iraq War in 1991, then joining the naval blockade against Serbia in 1992. These successful missions engaged in as part of the Western alliance foreshadowed the further extension of Germany’s military presence beyond European waters, beyond the Gulf perimeter, into the heartland of the Middle East.

Fifteen months ago, the German Navy took command of the maritime component of the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (unifil). This marked the German Navy’s first official deployment into Middle Eastern waters since World War ii. Ostensibly, the reason for this deployment was to secure the coast of Lebanon from arms smuggling. The German Navy’s operations in the region would appear to have been a resounding success, at least in scaring off any arms smugglers from penetrating the area, for not one smuggler has been captured since the Bundesmarine took on this role.

This has led some to muse that the whole exercise has been a giant PR gambit to condition certain Middle Eastern powers, the United Nations and the United States into accepting a wider remit for Germany in the Middle East. As the Islamic Republic News Agency reported, it has succeeded in “positively influencing an otherwise skeptical Lebanese public perception of European [German] engagement in the Middle East” (Oct. 5, 2006). If this is the case, as a PR exercise the Bundesmarine’s deployment off the coast of Lebanon has succeeded brilliantly, for, having received full marks for this particular contribution to Middle Eastern security, it now appears that Germany may be offered an expanded role in the Middle East.

German journalists report that “government advisors are considering the German naval deployment along the coast of the Gaza Strip. German naval ‘experience acquired off the coast of Lebanon … could serve possibly as a precedent for similar maritime missions,’ according to a recent publication by the German Council on Foreign Relations (dgap), for example off the coast of the Palestinian Autonomous Territory” (German-Foreign-Policy.com, January 29).

Enter the tiny, embattled nation of Israel into Germany’s current Middle Eastern military strategy.

Military cooperation between Germany and Israel tracks back to the conclusion of secret accords between Franz Josef Strauss, Germany’s defense minister at the time, and his wily contemporary in Israel, the now president of Israel, Shimon Peres. Negotiations between the two began as far back as 1957. By 1962 they had matured into a secret agreement for Germany to supply Israel with armaments and military training for the Israel Defense Forces.

Since foisted off onto the public as Germany’s obligation to “protect Israel,” being its due penance for the Holocaust, German Middle East policy is in fact geared to achieving, by diplomacy, trade, aid and military assistance, that which Rommel was denied in battle: the extension of German hegemony into the strategically oil-rich Middle East. This strategy has recently taken on even greater urgency due to Russia having gained such a dominant position in the German energy supply market, a strategic weakness that the dominant European national economy cannot afford. It is crucial for Germany’s future that it diversify the provision of its energy sources. The Middle East is Germany’s closest, most accessible and most economical means of supply, next to Russia.

Following the union of East and West Germany in 1990, Germany’s foreign policy has increasingly taken on globalist tendencies—the same tendencies that for some time have characterized its aggressive business strategies. Ever since the Balkan conflicts of the 1990s, that tendency for the expansion of Germany’s global influence has been steadily reflected in the extension of the nation’s military activities outside the continent of Europe.

Now, with the Israeli war cabinet having plainly endorsed the use of German forces in the UN effort in Lebanon, with the Bundeswehr planning to deploy a rapid reaction force in Afghanistan during this summer, and with German advisers in negotiations with the U.S. and Israel over the prospect of securing Gaza, the German nation is quietly easing into position in the Middle East, a position that is destined to grow into becoming the dominant force in the Middle East peace process (Daniel 8:9; 1 Thessalonians 5:3).

With the stationing of its navy off the coast of Lebanon in October 2006 as part of a UN initiative, Germany now has its navy deployed throughout the whole of the Mediterranean, one of the world’s most strategic waterways, from Gibraltar to Suez, and is currently seeking to extend its coverage of the Levant. South of Suez, the Bundesmarine continues to patrol the crucial Persian Gulf waters. Ensconced within those three strategic locations—the eastern Mediterranean, Afghanistan and the Gulf—is the richest oil-producing triangle in the world!

The Bundesmarine could well extend is patrols beyond the waters of Lebanon to the coastal periphery of Gaza within months. This will simply add to the presence of German police already on the ground in the region.

As German-Foreign-Policy.com notes, “Since Nov. 30, 2005, EU police detachments, with German participation, had been monitoring Palestinian border controls” (ibid.). These very astute German journalists observe that the combination of the unifil force and the EU police presence in the vicinity of Israel “highlight the EU and German intention to establish their independent police and military presence in the Near East. The efforts to take on the appearance of a neutral mediator between Israel and Arab countries are being accompanied by efforts to strengthen those forces willing to cooperate extensively with the West, as unifil and German (affiliated) initiatives show. The UN and the West are sealing Lebanon off from Syria, while massively pressuring Beirut to limit its relations with Damascus and enhance them with the EU …” (ibid.).

The same source points out that “Berlin and Brussels have started similar initiatives in the Palestinian Autonomous Territories, where EU police have already been active since Jan. 1, 2006 …. Germany is also participating in this deployment, which was prolonged last December. The mission is to implement the development plan for the Palestinian police and to instruct the leading personnel of the police in the Autonomous Territories. By supplying equipment, such as the recent supply of radio equipment to the police in Nablus, Berlin is also contributing to the establishment of the Palestinian repressive apparatus.”

Now with the highly influential dgap proposing to the German government that it further extend its military presence in the Middle East by deploying the Bundesmarine into the Gaza coastal strip, this simply enhances Germany’s position as the leading nation in the unifil Maritime Task Force, placing it in a prominent position to influence future Middle East maritime strategy, as usual, under any particular appropriate umbrella, be it the EU, UN or nato.

As German-Foreign-Policy.com further observes, “With the build-up of a German police and military presence in the vicinity of Israel, Berlin is strengthening Western [EU] positions. By conspicuously adopting a mediating role between Tel Aviv and Arab forces, Germany is at the same time laying the basis for enhancing its positions in the Near East—also in sharpening its profile in contrast to Israel and the usa.”

So it is that the very nation that only 60 years ago led a tyrannical fascist/Nazi axis to try to seize power over the Middle East, and from there dominate the globe, could soon be parked on one of the most strategic borders of the tiny, embattled nation of Israel, only a short hop from Jerusalem!

Any doubt that this will happen is eliminated for the student of Bible prophecy. Believe it or not, this southward and eastward march of the European Union, right on up to the borders of Israel, then on into Jerusalem, is prophesied in your Bible to happen in the not-too-distant future.

The marvel of it all is that this will have been achieved either at the invitation of, or, at the very least, with the direct encouragement of, nations once declared by the old Axis powers (now among the leading nations within the huge combine of the European Union), to be their rank enemies—the U.S., Britain and the Jewish nation of Israel, nations that once fought tenaciously and with real purpose to keep these other powers out of the crucially strategic Middle East.

How short is our memory!

Shin Bet chief reports: Masses of high-quality weaponry, such as long-range rockets, roll into Gaza through the breached Sinai border

The domestic security agency’s director, Yuval Diskin, warned the Israeli cabinet Sunday, Feb. 3, that the Palestinians exploited the chaos on the Gaza-Sinai border to smuggle in quantities of long-range rockets, anti-tank and anti-air rockets and high explosives for missiles. Hundreds of Palestinian terrorists have headed south into Sinai. According to Western intelligence sources, they are spread out along the 220-km Israeli border.

DEBKAfile’s counter-terror sources disclose the figure omitted from the cabinet’s official communiqué to avoid alarming the public: The number of armed terrorists at large in Sinai is estimated in the region of a thousand. Hamas prepared at least 30 tracks for them to use when it bulldozed the Gaza-Sinai border ten days ago.

Defense minister Ehud Barak therefore told the cabinet that a border barrier must be constructed urgently at two sections of the unfenced Israel-Egyptian border – Nitzana and Eilat.

However, he is too late. Insistent demands by senior IDF officers to fence the border were neglected for too long by the Olmert government. Now, the Egyptian-Israel border is wide open to terrorists and they have been presented with a safe haven in Sinai for hit-and-run attacks.

When Egyptian border police failed to stem the Palestinian surge out of Gaza last week, senior Israeli officers applied for permission to send up three combat helicopters, which they said would have been enough to stem the mass exit and the smuggling in of long-range rockets. But permission was withheld. It was denied in the same was as the high command was held back from embarking on an effective military operation to cut Hamas and its war machine down to size, when it was still readily feasible.

The Olmert government’s blunders over Gaza, military experts estimate, are potentially more ruinous to Israel security than even the mismanagement of the Lebanon War.
