WHAT IS P&S?
AIMED Point Shooting or P&S is a method of shooting that allows you to aim and shoot fast, accurately, instinctively, and automatically in good light or bad, and even when moving.
HOW IT WORKS?
You place your index finger along the side of the gun, point at a target, and pull the trigger with your middle finger, or opposite hand index finger.
That is all there is to it.
Point-n-pull. Point-n-pull. No more, no less.
It is not a precision shooting method, so don't expect dime or quarter sized groups.
Here are links to short videos (5 to 15 sec) that show P&S in action. I uploaded them in Oct 06 to YouTube as their software allows them to load very quickly. The videos also can be found in the articles below.

Airsoft Pistol Shooting at Aerials (6 - 10 ft.).
Common sense is required when using P&S. For example, if your index finger rests over the ejection port, or if it will be hit by the slide, then DON'T use it with that gun!
The aiming aid seen in the pic above at right, and also in the pic just below on the right, can help to keep your index finger away from the slide.
The aiming aid is patent protected by US Patent # 6023874 : POINT AND SHOOT INDEX FINGER REST. As such, please do not produce, import, sell, or use them unless authorized or licensed to do so.
If you are interested in producing or selling them under a very simple and low cost license, please contact me. I believe that there are millions and millions of gun owners and others in the US who could buy them and benefit from their use.
They also can be added to or incorporated into sub-guns, assault type rifles, tasers, airsoft guns, CO2 guns, paintball guns, TOY GUNS, SQUIRT GUNS, DART GUNS, etc...
AIMED Point Shooting or P&S is not new. And a variety of gun attachments have been developed over the years to help with its use.
Here is part of the text of Gardner's 1908 patent: "The invention is based largely upon the fact that the conscious or sub-conscious facilities intuitively enable men to point the index finger directly and accurately at any visible object without bringing the outstretched finger into alignment with or between the eye and the object."
The following quotes about vision, pointing and aiming, are from the U.S. Army's Combat Pistol and Rifle Field Manuals. They present a clear case for using P&S.
In Chap. 2, Sect. II of the U. S. Army's Field Manual 3-23.35 Combat Training With Pistols M9 AND M11 (June,2003), we find that:
"Everyone has the ability to point at an object."
"When a soldier points, he instinctively points at the feature on the object on which his eyes are focused. An impulse from the brain causes the arm and hand to stop when the finger reaches the proper position."
"When the eyes are shifted to a new object or feature, the finger, hand, and arm also shift to this point."
"It is this inherent trait that can be used by a soldier to rapidly and accurately engage targets."
And in the U.S. Army Rifle Field Manual 3-22.9 of 24 April 2003, there are descriptions of four aiming techniques for use in short range combat (under 50 meters). They are Slow Aimed Fired, Rapid Aimed Fire, Aimed Quick Kill, and Instinctive Fire.
As to Instinctive Fire, it says understandably that it is "the least accurate technique and should only be used in emergencies. It relies on instinct, experience, and muscle memory."
"The firer concentrates on the target and points the weapon in the general direction of the target. While gripping the handguards with the nonfiring hand he extends the index finger to the front, automatically aiming the weapon on a line towards the target."
The last sentence is very important here. It clearly states that when you extend your index finger along the side of your gun, it automatically aims your gun on a line towards the target.
So, if you can't see the sights, or if you don't have time to use them for each shot, or when you are moving, why not use P&S to fast, accurately, instinctively, and automatically aim your gun on a line towards the target.
And P&S is not a bar to the use of other shooting methods. It can be used to enhance most all of them.
It is the simplest of Point Shooting methods, and it can be learned with little if any training and practice.
The photos linked to below show that it can be deadly effective. They are pictures taken just before and after Jack Ruby shot Oswald using P&S.
The first is from one of a series of the WWW.dallasnews.com JFK assassination photos. The second is a portion of a JFKlancer.com photo of Robert H. Jackson's 1964 Pulitzer Prize Winning photo.
In the first picture, note that Ruby is back from and off to the right of one of the officers holding Oswald, and that his target area because of the position of the Oswald's arms and the policeman's arm, is not large. It also is a dynamic situation in that they all are moving, so there is no time to do anything but Point & Shoot.
In the second photo, you can see that Ruby used his middle finger to pull the trigger. His gun is way below eye level, so he is not Sight Shooting. Ruby points where he is going to shoot, and shoots where he points.
As I recall, when watching the TV video of the shooting on the day that it happened, Ruby and Oswald were three feet or more apart when he fired. No bystanders were hit, and Oswald died.

Now, there are many in the gun world who say that Point Shooting, and P&S in particular, can't possibly work! I find that a bit bizarre, as all one has to do is look at their targets, to know that Point Shooting and P&S both work, and that both are very effective. Here is a link to info on naysayers.

MAKING YOUR OWN "TEST" VERSIONS OF THE AIMING AID
As I believe the aiming aid can be a real lifesaver, Police Agencies and individuals are welcome to "roll their own" and add them to their Agency and personal weapons if done at their own risk and expense. That includes gunsmiths that may be needed to do the work.
"Test" versions of the aid are very easy to make from 3/4 inch plastic corner molding, and double sided 3M adhesive tape can be used to stick them to guns for testing. Very High Bond type tape can be used to make a semi to permanent bond.
I also used Loctite's "Stick'n Seal" to attach a test aid to a piece of aluminum, and the resulting bonding of the plastic to metal was very strong.
Click here for more info on how to add a "test" aiming aid to a gun.
The aiming aid is patent protected by US Patent # 6023874 : POINT AND SHOOT INDEX FINGER REST. As such, please do not produce, import, sell, or use them unless authorized or licensed to do so.
